'Cuban Tribute to Charlie Parker by Hot House Band' tomorrow, 2/21, at 2:30pm: "Hot House" is homage to the music and spirit of the great Charlie Parker. Conceived, produced and directed by trumpeter Steven Gluzband, Hot House may be considered as much a musical nexus as a band, juxtaposing traditional Cuban dance forms with the jazz idiom, young musicians with veteran players, and Cuban émigrés with first and second generation Americans.
'The Peanut Prince: George Washington Carver' Sunday, 2/22, at 2pm: How much can you do with a peanut? George Washington Carver found over 300 ways to use a peanut, including laundry soap and "peanut orange punch." Mr. Caver was former slave who spent his life doing research on plants. He was world famous and beloved; president's consulted with him, and Thomas Edison offered him the equivalent of a millions dollars a year to work for him and Carver said no! Recommended for ages 8 and older. Presented by Urban Stages. Funding for more children's programs at The New York Public Library's neighborhood hubs has been generously provided by the New York Life Foundation.
