Today's the Day

Election Day... it's finally here.

David Byrne, former lead singer of Talking Heads, sent out an email to his fans yesterday and we're going to let him sum up our thoughts on this historic day:
What can I say? The Republicans have made us less safe than before 9/11, bankrupted this economy, started an illegal war they can't - and don't intend to - finish, removed what sympathy (after 9/11) and respect the world had for the US, and have robbed US citizens of many of their basic rights. Global warming? What's that? Science and education? Investment in our future? No, thanks - we'll stick with a good 'ole hockey mom. Ignorant, and fucking proud of it, as is always the case.

Although it looks like a shoo-in, it ain't over 'til Florida. And there are plenty of racists in this country who will vote against their own best interests. So please, get to your local elementary school, post office, town hall, or whatever, and cast your vote and make this a country we can all be proud of. We can get out of this mess, and life can be better than it is.

Well put, David. BoogieDowner wants to remind you: bring your voter card to your local polling station!! Without it, you have to wait in some majorly long lines. Our polling station at PS 8 on Briggs Avenue had about a 45 minute wait this morning at 6am.
Polls are open until 9pm tonight. Click here to find out where to vote.

I got to PS 8 a little before 7 this morning and it was borderline 'chaos' - can you imagine later today into the last few hours? I printed out my voter registration info and brought it. Saved me from waiting on the 'main' line... and I was in and out within 10-15 minutes. GO OUT THERE AND VOTE!

Huge lines in Parkchester! But thankfully everyone seemed determined to stick it out no matter what. No chaos, only excited, happy people (myself included! I feel giddy, oh so giddy...) A volunteer (who was also a nun, so I doubt she would lie) told the crowd that equipment had arrived very, very late and that this was an obvious tactic to disenfranchise voters. Hmmm...

Whatever it takes, people!!!!
