Armory Public Hearing Tonight

As most Bronxites know by now, there is a possibility of the Kingsbridge Armory being converted to a shopping mall.

Love the idea or hate it, you can make your voice heard on the issue tonight. A public hearing will be held at the Bronx Library Center (E. Kingsbridge Road and Briggs Avenue) at 6pm.

For more background information of the project, check out the Daily News' Bill Egbert's piece today by clicking here.

I attended the meeting last night and I testified the following: "I am a former resident of the neighborhood having lived by the intersection of Kingsbridge Road and Creston Avenue. I would like to voice my disappointment with the present Kingsbridge Armory programming proposal. I consider additional commercial facilities the last thing this community needs. This community has one of the highest commercial densities in the Bronx. The community needs additional indoor recreation and educational facilities. NYC Parks and the School Construction Authority should step up and build an appropriate facility or leave it empty until we get better political representation. Queens just got one of the largest indoor recreation facilities in the city. Is the city funding middle and upper income areas by selling out lower-income areas? Finally, I would like to state that those who do not live in the Bronx, should not be permitted to own in the Bronx."
