Based out of Fordham University's Rose Hill campus, this has to be the best radio station in the tri-state area. It's listener-supported, so there are no obnoxious Auto World commercials blaring in your ear. They also broadcast NPR headlines at the top of every hour.
WFUV is always on the cutting edge of new music, while doing a great job of reminding you of those oldies but goodies that have slipped from your playlist. For example, while cleaning up after dinner the other night I was listening to WFUV and they played Stevie Wonder's "As." Whoa, how did I forget how kick-ass that song is?
So if you like Toots and the Maytals, Ray LaMontagne, Dr. John, Arcade Fire, Bob Dylan, Dean Martin, The Specials, Wilco, Death Cab for Cutie, Leonard Cohen, Magic Numbers, Ray Charles, Grateful Dead, The Decemberists, James Brown, Taj Mahal, Belle & Sebastian, Yo La Tengo, Bob Marley, Madeleine Peyroux, Nina Simone, David Byrne, Jack Johnson, or Ben Harper (just to name a few...), you must check out WFUV. If you're ultra-modern and don't even have a radio anymore, check out their streaming audio at http://www.wfuv.org/.
If you like what you hear, pony up and become a member like BoogieDowner. They are currently trying to raise $550,000 for their Fall Membership Drive. Contribute by clicking here.
