Event Reminders: TGIF!


New York Botanical Garden Events
Tons of good stuff happening at NYBG this weekend. It's a great place to spend the long weekend with events ranging from live music from M Shanghai String Band and the Westchester Chordsmen Quartet to the opportunity to press your own apple cider. Learn to Ride on Brook Avenue
Bike New York and City of New York Parks and Recreation are hosting a free bike-riding class for children and their parents tomorrow, 10/11, from 10am to 1pm. The event will take place in Mott Haven at People’s Park (St. Ann’s Avenue and Brook Avenue at 141st Street). Bike and helmet are required. Click here to sign up.


Latin Fest 2008
Celebrating the close of Hispanic Heritage Month, Latin Fest will take place tomorrow, 10/11, from 12 to 7pm on Third Avenue from 149th to 155th Streets. The event is free and will feature recording artist RaulĂ­n Rosendo, salsa singers Javier Luis and Ronny Mercedes, along with a live Mexican Mariachi, Merengue bands and many more Hispanic Pop Music artists, plus Folkloric dance presentations, children’s activities, inflatable rides, food and more. Eddie Palmieri in Concert
Enjoy an evening of New York City salsa at the Lehman Center for Performing Arts. Along with Eddie Palmieri, invited Soloist Giovanni Hidalgo will perform. Also appearing will be The Latin Giants of Jazz, Under the Direction of Johnny Rodriguez, and Jose Madera. Concert will take place tomorrow, 10/11, at 8pm. Tickets are $35 to $50. Irish Musicians and Dancers
The CUNY Institute for Irish-American Studies presents Irish Musicians and Dancers, performing at Lehman College, 250 Bedford Park Blvd. W., Oct. 12 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 to $50 ($5 off with student ID). Flamenco Music and Dance

Blue Notes at Wave Hill

Morris Park Columbus Day Parade
Thanks to a BoogieDowner reader who suggested we highlight this event due to its can't be missed old-school Italian vibe. The parade will take place Sunday, 10/12, from 12:30 to 3:30pm. It begins on White Plains Road and Morris Park Avenue and extends to Williamsbridge Road and Lydig Avenue.
