While not super cheap, this rather large (1,100 square feet) Mott Haven two bedroom is not outrageous either. The thing has two bathrooms for God's sake (with photographic evidence that seems to indicate that the second bathroom actually exists and is not a broker's listing bait)!
This must be some sort of rental chop because the embedded listing lists the price at $1675/month, but the title of the listing has it at $1600/month. This is not a bad share for roomies looking to save a few bucks or a couple that wants a little space.
The location is pretty nice for Mott Haven. The cross street is Alexander Avenue, so you'd be right down in that whole antique shop, artist loft, recording studio, Clock Tower building thing.
Mott Haven has some cool stuff to offer. There's the nascent and growing arts scene, great bars and restaurants (Bruckner Bar and Grill, Alexander's, Santa Clarita, Pio Pio etc.), beautiful architecture, and proximity to Manhattan.
Your transportation would be the 6 train at 138th and 3rd Avenue (one stop from Manhattan).
