A $3 Subway Ride?

The MTA has released its maximum fare hike schedule. Mind you this doesn't mean they will go up that much, but that they can go up that much.

Here's the rundown:
  • $3 base fare for subways and buses, up from $2
  • $105 for a monthly Metro Card, up from $81
  • $7 toll on East River crossings, up from $5 on the Whitestone and Throgg's Neck

How do you all feel about this?  Is this inevitable in such a terrible economic climate?  Or, is this just going to squeeze those of us who need efficient and cheap public transportation the most? Let us know what you think in the comments and in the poll.
