The Winter Garden Offers Special Weekend Themes in February with Extended Programming for February Break
“Tropical Treats: Chocolate, Vanilla, and Spice” Activities, Feb. 19 - 27
Offer Families Hands-On Fun with Favorite Flavors
What: The Winter Garden Featuring Special Weekend Themes in February
Inside the cozy Discovery Center, families investigate nature, using their senses, creativity, and basic science skills to explore the vital sparks of life that lie just below the surface of this quiet season. Deliciously themed weekends in February offer families the chance to discover the plants behind their favorite flavors such as chocolate and vanilla. The Winter Garden will feature extended weekend programming during February break (February 21 – 25) for New York City Schools.
Tropical Treats: Chocolate, Vanilla, and Spice, February 19 – 27
Start your visit in the warmth of the Lowland Tropical Rain Forest Galleries of the Haupt Conservatory and investigate the vanilla plant. Then venture to the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden’s Discovery Center to explore the seeds and fruit of the cacao tree, as well as cloves and the bark of the cinnamon tree. Reward yourself with delicious vanilla, chocolate, and cinnamon flavored treats to taste and smell. Compare modern-day chocolate with an ancient Mayan recipe in a hot chocolate taste test, and use your senses to try to predict what flavor jelly bean—cinnamon, vanilla, chocolate, or lemon—you’re served.
