About Valerie Capers:

Dr. Valerie Capers was born in the Bronx and received her early schooling at the New York Institute for the Education of the Blind. She went on to obtain both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from The Juilliard School of Music. She has also performed with a roster of outstanding artists, including Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis, Ray Brown, Mongo Santamaria, Tito Puente, Slide Hampton, Max Roach, James Moody and Paquito D'Rivera, among others. Valerie Capers was the first recipient of Essence magazine's "Women of Essence Award for Music," where she was in the elite company of fellow honorees Oprah Winfrey and Marla Gibbs.

GETTING TO THE BRONX MUSEUM OF THE ARTS
BY SUBWAY Take the D or B to the 167 Street / Grand Concourse station and exit at rear of station, walk south along Grand Concourse two blocks, or take the 4 to the 161 Street / Yankee Stadium station and walk east three blocks to the Grand Concourse, then walk north four blocks along Grand Concourse to 165th Street.
BY BUS Take the Bx1, Bx2, or BxM4 Express to 165th St. and Grand Concourse.

MUSEUM HOURS
Thursday, Saturday, Sunday from 11am - 6 pm. Friday from 11am - 8 pm. Closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
