Clothing and Textile Recycling Day and Roosevelt Island Cherry Bloom Festival set for Saturday April 30th

Here are two great events co-sponsored by NYS Senator Serrano and Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer. The recycling event should help with spring cleaning in an eco-friendly manner. The Cherry Blossom Festival on Roosevelt Island should be a great way to enjoy one of NYC great outdoor spaces, while also helping to raise funds for the devastation in Japan. Kudos to Bx/Man. representative Serrano for co-sponsoring two great events.

Enjoy

Cherry Blossom Festival

Saturday, April 30, 2011
1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
Western Seawall Cherry Walk
Roosevelt Island

This weekend, head to Roosevelt Island and enjoy the First Annual Cherry Blossom Festival, celebrating Japanese heritage and culture. The festival will feature cultural demonstrations, musical performances, and a photography contest. The Japanese cherry blossom tree, or sakura, symbolizes the cycle of human life. In honor of the lives lost during the heartbreaking natural disaster in Japan, this event will donate proceeds from the Roosevelt Island Residents Association benefit auction to the Japan efforts.

Great stuff! Wish I had learned about the Cherry Bloom Festival earlier! Was able to attend the Hangout Fest though which wrapped up last week and I participated in the Recycling for a Relief drive. Check out this video: http://youtu.be/J_aMMHknr4c -Sandy
