Events @ Bronx Academy of Arts & Dance
Friday, April 3 at 8pm - $15 - I Heart Hamas: Fresh from the 2008 NY International Fringe Festival, I Heart Hamas, written and performed by Jennifer Jajeh, is one woman’s cross-cultural journey between San Francisco and Palestine as she navigates checkpoints, dating taboos, and a 450 year family lineage while striving for fame, love, and a place called Home.
Saturday, April 4 at 8pm - $5 - Dancing Like a Girl: NYC B-girls in the 1990s: B-girl/modern dancer/oral historian MiRi Park shakes up hip-hop history by looking specifically at the experiences of b-girls who were instrumental to the third revival of breaking in New York City. Their perspectives on dealing with gender, femininity, and race provide insight as to how their life decisions filter into a larger consciousness about plural identities. MiRi will be joined by some or all of her interviewees/co-writers, invited and pending confirmation are Paulito, Miss Twist, Honey Rockwell, Rokafella, and Big Tara for a discussion and a mini-jam session.

Community Protest @ Yankee Stadium

Concerned Bronxites will be gathering outside of the Yankees vs. Chicago Cubs exhibition game (161st Street and River Avenue) tonight, 4/3, at 6pm to protest what are now being viewed as broken promises to the community with the construction of the new Yankee Stadium. Protesters will have signs and placards siting the lack of replacement parks, lack of jobs for Bronxites and other concerns.

The Bronx Anarchist Fair @ Brook Park
The Bronx Anarchist Fair, which will take place tomorrow, 4/4, from 11am to 6pm in Brook Park (141st Street & Brook Avenue), is a public event for people in our neighborhoods to learn and share with each other about how to make grassroots change. We come together to celebrate the Bronx’s history of resistance and resilience, and share practical tools for anti-authoritarian organizing and action. Come out for a day of rebellious fun! The Bronx Anarchist Fair will include: tables of radical books, and tables for local grassroots groups, a series of workshops on how to organize in and reclaim our communities, a really really free market, screenings of radical movies, all-day childcare, and children's activities throughout the day, as well as a kickin’ afterparty. Family Art Project @ Wave Hill
Roll down fragrant, emerald hillsides with this weekend's Family Art Project, My Green Heaven. Marvel at the many tones of tiny leaflets and emerging shoots. Events @ Bronx Library Center
Carnegie Hall Neighborhood Concert Series presents 'Sonido Isleno,' tomorrow, 4/4, at 2:30pm. Sonido IsleƱo or "Island Sound" celebrates the diverse sounds encountered in New York City. The group performs a blend of traditional Puerto Rican, Dominican, and Cuban music, as well as jazz and contemporary rhythm and blues.
'The Life of Beethoven' will be presented Sunday, 4/5, at 2pm. One of the greatest composers of all time, Ludwig Von Beethoven wrote his greatest masterpiece, the 9th Symphony, while he was profoundly deaf. This fast paced, inspiring, and facile play is accompanied by Beethoven's powerful music. Factual and compelling, Beethoven's story is moving and unforgettable. Presented by the Travelling Lantern Theatre Company. Recommended for ages 5 to 12.

Rhythm Review @ Fordham
The Faculty Rhythm and Blues Band of Fordham University, headed by guitarist and vocalist Dr. Paul Cimbala of the Fordham History Department and Fordham's a capella group the Satin Dolls, will be doing its third benefit concert for the Bronx African American History Project tomorrow, 4/4, at 7 PM at McGinley Center Ballroom. This year's event features: vocalist and rapper Joel Turner, a Patterson Houses alum who electrified the crowd last year with his rendition of "Rappers Delight," vocalist Linda Spinelli, whose powerful solos bring back memories of Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin, bass player Brennan O'Donnell, Fordham's resident funkmaster who just accepted a position as President of Manhattan College, rapper/activist Notorious Phd (Dr. Naison), who will perform his anti-gentrification jam "Not in the Bronx" and his new youtube jam "Stimulate Me!," The Bronx River Rats featuring Chris Chalamet (Theology Dept) on keyboards, John Hollwitz (Grad Business) on harmonica, Paul Cimbala (History Dept) on guitar, and The Satin Dolls, Fordham's female a capella group, featuring beautiful harmonies and breathtaking solos.
Tickets are $10, $5 for students with Fordham ID and may be purchased at the door or in advance from Dr. Paul Cimbala at the Fordham History Department or Dr. Mark Naison at the Department of African and African American Studies.

Summer Camp Open House @ SUNY Maritime
Children don’t have to travel far to have a camp experience on the ocean. S.U.N.Y. Maritime College in the Bronx offers a variety of day-camp programs involving sailing, swimming, kayaking, scuba diving and that all-time favorite, marine discovery. Families can register at this open house, which will also feature the summer programs of the organization i9 sports and a free on-site one-hour basketball clinic for ages 5 through 13. Holocaust Remembrance Event @ Manhattan College
Presented by the Manhattan College Holocaust Resource Center and the Department of Fine Arts presents, this year's commemoration of Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) is "Music Out of Oppression" featuring Dr. Ronald Senator (composer, lecturer), Miriam Brickman (pianist), and Marni Nixon (soprano). There will be discussion and presentation of examples from Senator’s Holocaust Requiem, as well as piano pieces, soprano solos and cabaret songs written in Concentration Camps performed by Miriam Brickman and Marni Nixon.
