Round'em Up

Here are some Bronx-related stories which we've rounded up for you, our lovely readers, while trolling the interweb with our horse and lasso this fine morning:

The State of New York is in trouble if Governor Paterson takes Pedro Espada Jr.'s sage advice about dealing with investigations: "Do what Pedro does..." [timesunion.com]
BD Note: Doing what Pedro does is never, EVER a good idea. However, kudos to Pedro for talking about himself in the 3rd person. We like when he talks like a crazy man.
A new career and technical education charter school will be coming to the South Bronx...The deadline to submit applications is April 1st. [Welcome to Melrose]

The former head of a Bronx non-profit will serve 10 to 16 months in prison for embezzling more than $50,000 from the group...The deal she struck also lets her off the hook for other charges in relation to shady dealings with Assemblywoman Arroyo's grandson [Daily News]

Doctors from Montefiore Medical Center make the impossible happen by successfully completing a life-saving liver transplant after getting the organ from Buffalo during the snowstorm that dumped 20 inches on NYC [Daily News]

Just wanted to clarify something regarding Dr. Richard Izquierdo, founder of the Health and Science Charter school. This is addressed to anonymous and anyone who is confused about who Dr. Richard Izquierdo is. Dr. Richard Izquierdo is NOT nor has ever been involved in any scandal or wrongdoing. The news search which was posted by anonymous is in reference to Richard Izquierdo Arroyo who is assemblywoman Carmen Arroyo's nephew and councilwoman Maria Del Carmen Arroyo's grandson.

The two are completely unrelated and there is zero connection other than the unfortunate circumstance of bearing the same name. Whereas Richard Izquierdo Arroyo has been charged with skimming $200,000 from a non-profit charter school, the esteemed Dr. Richard Izquierdo has done nothing but give back to the community and served his community and continues to do so quite actively at age 80.
