Sore Thumb...
This building on Bainbridge Avenue at E. 207th Street has always stuck out
like a sore thumb to me. It's so bizarre and out of character
for the Bainbridge Avenue/204th Street strip. This type of low rise commercial property is much more common in the hood...Photo by ErLu

Is that the old Drewsens?
No, the old Drewsen's is still a deli next to Sal's. This was the site of a house that burned down in the 90s-- it was the offices of Slingsby and Wilansky and now Slingsby, Sanders and Pagano has built this office building after many, many years of delay. I don't mind the intended look -- the illustrations were beatufiul -- it's just not well executed or well kept.
The picture of the deli-is that the old Drewsen's on Bedford Park Blvd?
Please keep on commenting about the out of context and downright ugly buildings that are ruining our beautiful Bronx neighborhoods. Our politicians are still turning a blind eye to developers' interests at the expense of neighborhood character. Just look at Riverdale's unfinished Tulfan Terrace, and the ubiquitous fedders buildings with their exposed electric meters, and no front lawns.
Bland, Cheap, & Ugly.
The deli pictured is Eddie's on Bainbridge just north of 206th St. It was owned for years by the Hoffenberg's but they moved on years ago. Its now run by a really nice family from Turkey.
For me, the question is what to do now that the building is there.
As the Department of City Planning rezones this area, I have two concerns. First, how do we foster appropriate massing for other new buildings? Second, is there any strategy for new growth on the neighboring lots to grow around this building in a way that would transition it back into the streetscape?
The First picture, Jordan is right, it was a Law Office (First a Home), now hpme to privaye and public developers, including I believe Montefiore Offices.
The Second, The OLDDDDDDDDDDD Eddie's Deli. The owner sold (I believe 15 yrs ago) and THANK GOD kept it as a respectable deli.
But in short, your right. The old stores still delight the neighborhood while the "out of time" structures attempted to dominate-and now-"stuck in time"
I have to say, the "new" building looks better in this picture than any time I have ever seen it in real life. You must have SOME pictha taking skills, BD!
It's truly and eyesore. And took forever to complete and occupy. Does anyone know what's up with the huge building on Gunhill and Perry (I think), by the CVS? It's been empty for years. Did the developers run out of money?
