This is a four bedroom house in Wakefield for less than $300K - and you wouldn't have to sign a waiver to enter or wear a haz mat suit.
Wakefield is thoroughly residential, with lots of houses and not as many apartment buildings as in the rest of the borough (although they're are some). This unit is big (1600 sq. ft.) and reasonably cheap ($295K), but the transportation could be better (it's a decent walk to the 2/5 stop at 233rd Street). Two out of three Listing of the Day criteria ain't bad, right? And at least there is a driveway for parking, which is a huge bonus anywhere in the city.
The house itself is an attached one family. At this price BoogieDowner wasn't expecting much, but the pictures seem to indicate an adequate house. The kitchen looks pretty nice, with decent cabinets and stainless steel. There is even a backyard of sorts, although it seems to be more of a concrete deck than grass. Nonetheless, outdoor space is outdoor space, no?
The monthly taxes are insanely low at $151/month. If you think about paying maintenance upwards of $800 a month in a co-op or condo, you'd be able to shift $650 of that monthly expense toward a mortgage (and equity) in a house.
Not sure this house or hood is for everyone, but four bedrooms for less than $300K is hard to come by. It's worth a look.
