Community Leaders, Dominican-American Activist, to Call for Fair Representation including Creation of Congressional District

Here is news on a push to create a "Latino" Congressional district. With the increase in voting Latinos do they have the numbers and cohesion to make it happen? There is a rally this Friday at the United Palace Theater on Broadway and 175th Street for anyone interested in joining the struggle.

(New York, NY) – Latino community leaders will hold a rally on Friday, February 10, at Noon, to call for fair representation in the redistricting process, including a Congressional district that captures communities of common interest in Northern Manhattan, the West Bronx, and Corona and Jackson Heights, Queens.

Leaders will highlight the fact that Congressional representation has not kept up with the sharp increase in New York’s Latino population. Despite sharing businesses, resources, common language, important institutions, Latino communities in the area have been carved up and denied fair representation, as required by law.

o Latino Justice

o Northern Manhattan and West Bronx Coalition for Fair Representation

o Northern Manhattan Democrats for Change

· Small business owners from Northern Manhattan, West Bronx, and Corona/Jackson Heights, Queens
