POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE ANNOUNCES BRONX WINNERS OF
ANNUAL BROTHERHOOD/SISTERHOOD ART CONTEST

In February, the Police Athletic League (PAL) announced the Bronx winners of its Annual Brotherhood/Sisterhood Art Contest. Over 500 PAL youngsters, ages five to 14, received recognition for their demonstration of this year’s theme, “Greek and Roman Mythology.” The colorful creations included a variety of art mediums such as posters, murals, three-dimensional crafts and quilts. The winning students, from PAL’s 16 full-time centers throughout the five boroughs, received awards for their outstanding artwork.
Young people from PAL’s New South Bronx Center and PAL’s Webster-Giannone Center in Fordham-Tremont were among the honored artists. Mannix Quijano, Wasker Estrella and Mireya Mendez, fifth graders from PAL’s Webster-Giannone Center received Third Place in the Murals category. Third graders from PAL’s New South Bronx Center, Albertyna Mendoza and Amanda Ortega, received Honorable Mention for their work in the Quilts category.
PAL’s Annual Brotherhood/Sisterhood Art Contest is one of the PAL KIDS Events that offer a series of contests, showcases, performances and festivals for children in PAL’s After School Program. Events are designed to stimulate learning, cooperation, camaraderie, self-expression and sportsmanship, while helping children to develop their talents and artistic abilities.
New York City’s Police Athletic League is the first, largest and finest civilian-run PAL in the country. Founded in 1914, PAL has served the city’s young people for 97 years. PAL provides recreational, educational, cultural and social activities to over 56,000 boys and girls annually. It is also the city’s largest, independent, nonprofit youth organization.
