Rooting out corruption by launching the Taxpayer Protection Bureau; appointing regional public integrity officers all over the state; and initiating a unique plan to crack down on fraud in earmarks, contracts, and other government spending through cooperation with the state Comptroller.
Protecting our environment by suing the federal government for failing to commit to a full environmental review of the proposed regulations that would allow natural gas drilling – including the potentially harmful "fracking" technique. The Attorney General has also fought to ensure safety protections at the Indian Point nuclear power plant, and filed multiple legal actions to protect the air New Yorkers breathe and the water they drink.
Fighting for equality by taking legal action to challenge the constitutionality of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act and co-wrote a New York Daily News opinion piece in support of marriage equality with former U.S. Solicitor General Theodore Olson.
