Norwood Food Co-op wins grant to subsidize SNAP (foodstamp) recipients!
Low-income Bronxites looking to eat healthy are in luck – the Norwood Food Co-op can now offer the chance to offer farm-fresh, organic vegetables at a big discount!
The Norwood Food Co-op buys vegetables, fruit and dairy products directly from farmers through the Community Supported Agriculture program. Norwood members join up in the early spring, and then receive farm-fresh food once a week from mid-June to mid-November. It’s a great way to eat better, while at the same time supporting small New York farmers.
A $900 grant from Just Food/Wholesome Wave for SNAP (foodstamp) members allows us to offer a deep discount to SNAP (foodstamp recipients). These prices are roughly half of the regular shares in the Co-op.
· A single share for SNAP recipients will only cost them $170 in benefits plus $10 in cash
· A split single share for SNAP recipients will only cost them $77.50 in benefits plus $20 in cash
· Double shares are also available.

Like all Co-op members, members who pay with SNAP benefits are required to do 4 hours of volunteer work helping the Co-op operate.

Membership for the 2011 season is still open to all! The deadline is April 29, so please contact us now! For more information, check out www.norwoodfoodcoop.org or call 917-213-3808.
