PRESS RELEASE

March 31, 2011: The New York City Montessori Charter School Board of Trustees will meet on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at 9 a.m. at the law offices of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, 1285 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10019-6064. The NYC Montessori Charter School has been granted a charter by the New York State Board of Regents to open the first Montessori-type elementary school in the Bronx.

Applications for a limited number of seats are now being accepted by the school and its nonprofit partners in the South Bronx, where the search for a facility to house the famed teaching model is nearing completion. Dr. Denise Clay, who chairs the New York City Montessori Charter School’s Board of Trustees, says that application forms can now be downloaded from the website of the South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation or SoBRO, one of the school’s institutional partners (www.sobro.org). “Parents who are interested in securing Kindergarten to 1st grade slots for this next academic year at the New York City Montessori Charter School can also ask for application forms from SoBRO’s main office at 555 Bergen Avenue in the South Bronx as well as from the F.E.G.S. office at 412 East 147th Street in Mott Haven,” adds Dr. Clay, who also serves as SoBRO’s Director of Education and Staff Development.

The school will be somewhere in the South Bronx. The exact location is not yet known. From what they sent me they have a few sites in mind but have not yet confirmed a specific spot. There are some contact #'s and sites to secure more info. I would call them for more information. If I receive more details I will post.
