I am glad to see that Ruben has some "green ideas." The problem here? "Ideas" = years and years before anything is actually done? What does this mean? We unemployed "winners" in the Bronx will be facing many many more years of a vacant, abandoned Armory, and NO JOBS..so we can be "winners" a lot longer!
Nevermind the fact that he simply is putting forth IDEAS...NOT plans. What else does this mean? There was never any plan B! Sorry folks, while he was grandstanding for votes and trying to convince all those people at the homeless shelters they are now "winners," he was scrambling after the clock ran out to figure out what the heck to do.
So what is the cold reality for the Bronx? Nope..we are not "winners" as he would have you believe. We have some "ideas" from Ruben...great...hopefully ConEd and my Landlord will take Ruben's "ideas" as payment. We are stuck with an abandoned site for many years, no jobs, nada...and we are all supposed to just be happy at simply pinning our hopes on Ruben's "ideas" that may or may not happen at some undisclosed time in the next 20 years.
Yay...that's 2 wins now for the Bronx...we just keep winning!
The whole Armory fiasco is a disgrace.
No one should ever complain about the lack of investment in the Bronx again. The message has been sent, and received, loud and clear-STAY OUT.
My sources tell me that Related could not finance the Kingsbridge Armory deal. Apparently they used the Living Wage issue as the scapegoat – easy way to break out of the deal. There is also speculation about Related's ability to finance the West Side Yards project.
When Related saw that a deal was imminent on the Kingsbridge Armory, it asked Mayor Bloomberg to pull it off the table. Without the agreement the City Council had no choice but to reject.
Bloomberg then vetoed the City Council rejection to signal his concern. However, after vetoing, he did not pick up the phone and try to lobby the small number of votes he needed to prevent being overridden. He also did not attempt to negotiate during the days between the veto and yesterday’s final vote.
The Bronx was once again played with – by the administration that doesn’t care about it.
