Round'em Up

Here are some Bronx-related stories which we've rounded up you, our lovely readers, while trolling the interweb with our horse and lasso this fine morning:

A profile of the forgotten gem that is the the Hall of Fame for Great Americans at Bronx Community College...the collection needs some loving benefactors if it ever hopes to shine again [New York Times]

Profiles of job seekers who landed gigs at the new Applebee's at Fordham Plaza...6,500 people applied for 120 jobs (staffing has since been decreased to 80 positions) [New York Times]

Tour buses bring scores of curious visitors to the site of Amadou Diallo's death at 1157 Wheeler Avenue [Daily News]

Haitian-born boy with rare intestinal disease receives medical treatment (as well as much needed TLC) in Bronx hospitals [New York Times]

**There's also a story in Crain's New York Business regarding the ongoing battle over the Sheridan Expressway...it's a subscription-only article, but a super fab BD reader send in the following useful tip for accessing Crain's stories such as this. Posting a link here won't work, but you can simply Google the exact title of the piece (in this case, "Big battle over short highway in Bronx") and you should be able to click through that way.

I recently caught up with the only Bronxite ever to be a Vendy Award finalist — Fauzia Abdur-Rahman — of Fauzia's Heavenly Delights (161st and Sheridan Ave). On my blog I wrote a bit about her and posted a soundslides set. Feel free to check it out!
