Just got back from watching U2 at Fordham for free... Not a bad way to spend a Friday morning!

There was heavy security, but we were able to get in with the flash of our alum 'Ram Pass.' NYPD was stationed near all the entrances to the campus though. Gotta protect Bono from crazy fans I guess...

U2 sounded awesome, but they didn't play any of their old hits. It was all music off their new album, and then 'Beautiful Day' and 'Vertigo.' But hey, you really can't complain. We even ran into some BoogieDowner readers (who are also Fordham alums) at the concert - Nice to see you Pat and Dawn!

Big ups to Fordham's President Fr. McShane for bringing this concert to fruition. This is priceless publicity for Fordham and the Bronx!

U2 and GMA Setting Up for Tomorrow's Show at Fordham

Pearl and I took a stroll over to Fordham's campus this afternoon to check out what the hub-bub was regarding the rumored U2 performance for Good Morning America tomorrow.

The show is indeed happening from the steps of Keating Hall... One girl I talked to said that the students are getting a free breakfast at 5am and then they need to be in position on Eddie's Parade at 6:30am... She said she thought the actual show would begin around 8am.

Oh sweet Jesus... this is a recipe for disaster. Thursdays are the big night out for Fordham kids, so I predict many undergrads will be stocking up on supplies and stumbling over to Eddie's after pulling a pretty serious all-nighter (or at least that's what this slightly alcoholic alum would have done)... Ah, the good old days.

By the way, I asked one of the security guys if alums could get on campus for the show and he said "most likely" if they have their ID. Since Pearl's up at 6am anyway, I'll probably head over to check it out. I hope the Jolly Tinker is equipped with a booster seat for some kid-friendly pre-gaming!

U2 at FU?

The interweb is buzzing with the news that U2 may be playing a "secret" gig over at Fordham's Rose Hill campus this Friday, 3/6.

The story was originally scooped by the Hartford Courant, and appears in yesterday's New York Post. Apparently U2 will be in town for the week promoting their new album, "No Line on the Horizon." They'll be appearing on "Late Show with David Letterman" all week long, and the Fordham gig will air on "Good Morning America."

I'm not sure my alum 'Ram Pass' will do me much good on Friday, but it's worth a stroll over to the campus to check out what's happening. I'm loving the fact that U2 has chosen to play at Fordham up here in the BoogieDown. The gang over of WFUV must be loving this news.
