BoogieDowner Community Board Announcement: CB7 Meeting Tonight

The following tip on tonight’s Community Board 7 Parks committee meeting was sent by Jay Shuffield. He is part of a very vocal community organization called the Friend of Williamsbridge Oval. Tonights meeting is at 6:30pm at the address listed below.

I encourage everyone to get involved in their local community board so they can help maintain and improve their neighborhoods. All CB members, regardless of which neighborhood in the Bronx they represent, are encouraged to send information to the BoogieDowner. Bronx Community Rallies and Replaces Stolen Piano

Congratulations to the community pulling together to replace the stolen piano donated by Sing- for-Hope. To the selfish thieves that stole the piano, they should be ashamed of themselves. Please see the letter and photo sent from the Friends of Williamsbridge Oval.

They may steal our piano, but they cannot take away our hope!

On Monday morning, June 27, the beloved Sing-For-Hope Piano went missing at the Williamsbridge Oval Park in the Norwood neighborhood of the Bronx. Instead of being helpless victims, a community group who advocates for the Williamsbridge Oval Park organized themselves and, luckily, secured a piano from an anonymous donor in Mid-town Manhattan.

Then on June 29, Wednesday evening around 9:30 pm, Friends of the Williamsbridge Oval Park replaced the stolen Sing-For-Hope Piano with a beautiful, up-right piano via the help of a neighbor lending his pick-up truck and group of strong Friends of the Williamsbridge Oval Park hoisting this donated piano down four flights of stairs onto a truck.

On Thursday afternoon, neighborhood children then painted the piano (which will soon be embellished by a local artist) and played the piano as if the thievery were a forgotten tale.

Friends of the Williamsbridge Oval plan on placing the donated piano in the Recreation Center at the Williamsbridge Oval Park. The newly, remodeled Recreation Center is slated to be opened Summer 2011. FOTWO then plan to coordinate piano lessons for neighborhood children with their local council member and schools.

Friends of Williamsbridge Oval Rally to Replace Stolen Piano

The pop-up piano provided by the Sing for Hope Foundation, which has given so much inspiration to the community, was stolen recently. Rather than feeling helpless the community organization, Friends of Williamsbridge Oval is taking the lead to replace the piano. Commumnity Activist Group Gets Results: Assemblyman Dinowitz Office Confirms Williamsbridge Oval Park Will Open ASAP

The Friends of Williamsbridge Oval have been busy rallying to have their new park open in time for the summer season. Their success is proof that our voices can be heard and that our appointed and elected officials do listen when organized constructive criticism is expressed. The following was received by Eileen Markey who has sent multiple e-mails to the BoogieDowner related to the park. Kudos to all the community activists and Bronx Park Commissioner Hector Aponte that worked to make sure the park was open in time for everyone to enjoy the summer season. I look forward to receiving photos taken at the new park.
