U.S. Congressman Serrano Marches in Hunts Point Fish Parade

Here is news on an annual parade gaining popularity in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx. I have never attended the parade but do enjoy what it represents for the community. Besides the press release sent by U.S. Congressman Serrano posted below, I also attached the web address for the organization hosting the event and a clip I found on You Tube.

Enjoy

On June 25th, Congressman Serrano marched with thousands of Bronx residents in the annual Hunt’s Point Fish Parade. The Fish Parade, which is loosely based on the Coney Island Mermaid Parade, has become a yearly celebration of the Hunt’s Point community. This year the parade incorporated an American Indian Festival into its celebration at Barretto Point Park, educating the community about the presence and lifestyle of the Sivanoy Tribe, that once called Hunts Point home.

Photos of Barretto Point Park in Hunts Point

Here are some photos of Barretto Point Park in Hunts Point. It is a beautiful park that many people don't know about due to its location in a mostly industrial section of Hunts Point. I assume this is where the proposed ferry will arrive and depart. It also sports a cute outdoor theatre reminiscent of the ancient theatres you see sprinkled all over Greece. For any thespians out there I think it's a great location for an outdoor play or evening cinema event.
