Borough Cook-off Gives 4th of July Weekend a Sizzling Start:
Competition Pits Borough Against Borough to Find Hottest Chef

WHAT: New York’s best homegrown barbeque chefs will compete in the BBQ in the Boroughs Cook-off presented by Fairway Market and the Daily News to determine who will be named the hottest borough chef. The five borough culinary competition brings together different flavors and many ways to prepare your favorite summertime barbeque foods. Residents of the five boroughs submitted their recipes and Daily News readers voted online to pick the top 25 finalists. The recipes of the 25 finalists were featured in a special section in the Daily News on June 16th. The top 25 will face-off at the BBQ in the Boroughs Cook-off on Thursday, June 30, in the parking lot of the Harlem Fairway Market. The overall winner will be awarded a $2,000 gift card to Fairway Market, BBQ in the Boroughs trophy and a $1,000 Weber Genesis Gas Grill from EBA Appliances. The second-place winner will receive a $1,000 Fairway gift card and the third-place winner a $500 gift card. Residents from the 5 boroughs are invited to attend and support the top chefs from their borough.

The competition will be judged by: Sara Gore, co-host of LX New York; Amanda Sidman, Daily News Writer and “Best of” Columnist; Ray Venezia, Fairway Markets Meat Director; Steve Jenkins, Specialty Food Buyer at Fairway Markets; and Alan Riesenberger, Fairway Executive Chef.
