Parkchester CSA Farmer Meet and Greet

Parkchester CSA will host a “Meet Our Farmer” event on Saturday, April 21, 10 AM - 12 Noon, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1891 McGraw Avenue (at Virginia Avenue) in Parkchester. This event is open to anyone interested in joining the CSA.

Farmer Cheryl Rogowski, of W. Rogowski Farm, uses innovative methods to produce a wide variety of Certified Naturally Grown vegetables. Her farm situated in the black dirt region of Pine Island in Orange County, New York, focuses on distribution through local channels -- farmers markets, restaurants and CSAs in the Bronx and East New York, Brooklyn. Ms. Rogowski was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship for her farming methods.

CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) gives city residents the opportunity to buy fresh, locally grown produce directly from the farmer. During a 23-week season from June to November, members of the Parkchester CSA will receive weekly deliveries of pesticide free produce from W. Rogowski Farm. The cost to join the CSA is $435 (less than $19 per week) paid up front at the beginning of the growing season. Each member's weekly share contains 7 -10 types of vegetables -- enough to feed a family of four or two people who cook regularly. Financial Assistance can be arranged for those households with a need.

Parkchester CSA is a member of Just Food, a non-profit organization that connects communities with the resources and support they need to make fresh, locally grown food accessible to all New Yorkers.
