The Bronx AmeriCaribbean Chamber of Commerce ("BACCC") has sent out a useful press release rounding up ways to get involved with helping Haiti, as well as organizations to reach out to if you are seeking information about loved ones who were affected by the earthquake. Here's all the info:
Two really good organizations to send money to are Partners in Health (Boston based) and Doctors Without Borders (International). Both are reputable medical organizations that have been in Haiti for many years. They are already handling thousands of injured and need money for more supplies. Donate directly on their secure websites and read more about what they are doing and what your dollars will be used for. Donations are tax deductible.
