(New York, NY) – Following a powerful earthquake, which devastated cities and towns in Japan, New York State Senator Adriano Espaillat joined millions of New Yorkers in expressing solidarity with Japanese Americans and the people of Japan.

Senator Adriano Espaillat said: “During these trying times, it’s more important than ever that we come together and support each other. As New Yorkers, we stand with the victims of the earthquake and their families. We are particularly concerned about supporting Japanese Americans who may have loved ones in Japan. I urge all New Yorkers to reach out to the American Red Cross and other non-profit organizations to support our friends in their time of need.”

The earthquake, with its epicenter off the coast of Japan, was recorded at 8.9 on the Richter Scale, the strongest quake in the history of Japan. Ensuing tsunamis added to the devastation, causing destruction throughout the Northeast region of Japan.

The U.S. State Department has set up a special number for help in locating American Citizens living or traveling in Japan. The number is 1-888-0407-4747 or 202-647-5225.

Donation to the Red Cross can be made by visiting www.redcross.com or by texting “REDCROSS” to 90999 to make a $10 donation to help those affected by the earthquake in Japan and tsunami throughout the Pacific.

Assemblyman Dinowitz, Council Member Koppell, and State Senator Espaillat Announce Town Hall Meeting

When three heavy hitters like Dinowitz, Koppell and Espaillat set up a town hall meeting, my guess is there are some serious topics on the table. With over a million NYC rent stabilized apartments at risk with present rent stabilization laws set to expire on June 15th, It should be a very lively town hall meeting. If you live in a rent stabilized apartment this is one meeting you might want to attend. Any input out there from our building owners?
