The pros: great food... it's true to its word in delivering farm fresh, delish produce, diary, and proteins. <BR/>However, we're finding that the quantity of the food we get in our monthly delivery doesn't seem to really match the cost of being a shareholder. We're on one income and I don't think we'll be able to afford to continue with it. You're supposed to see a savings as compared to grocery store prices, but that just doesn't seem to be the case. I wish the South Bronx Food Co-op was a little closer... I'd love to be able to stop in to get fresh food on a weekly basis rather than a monthly basis.Boogiedownerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08013028900628543820noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2149362212571632662.post-89649228524352530522009-02-27T11:19:00.000-05:002009-02-27T11:19:00.000-05:00When I used to live in upper Manhattan (Inwood), I...When I used to live in upper Manhattan (Inwood), I experienced similar problems with neighborhood groceries, such as Fine Fare on Broadway/Dyckman and a few others. Quality failed to exist yet the prices were above board. Now that I see the same predicament in Bedford Park, is it because we're not 'downtown' or the upper west/east sides? I believe we're entitled to have GREAT (not just good) markets within walking distance. Wasn't there a food co-op in Norwood?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2149362212571632662.post-34087426159329738372009-02-27T09:14:00.000-05:002009-02-27T09:14:00.000-05:00I'm the first commenter. I just bought cheese on Sunday (as in five days ago, not a Sunday five months ago) and it's already growing something on it! For other stuff, like my cage free organic eggs, they're great. When I do some serious stocking up on staples, I always go to the Pathmark in Co-Op City.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2149362212571632662.post-14209577183522249192009-02-26T17:39:00.000-05:002009-02-26T17:39:00.000-05:00I think the thing that frustrates me the most is t...I think the thing that frustrates me the most is that these glorified bodegas are allowed to operate as they are. We can all plan better and travel to get to one grocery store or another that we like and trust, but we should also be able to frequent the ones within walking distance - these places make a crapload of money and are essentially providing pretty nasty food at usually pretty high prices. If you fork over your hard-earned money to buy meat, you shouldn't have to use it the same day you buy it! Sorry, more venting!Boogiedownerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08013028900628543820noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2149362212571632662.post-34173357313005157462009-02-26T17:19:00.000-05:002009-02-26T17:19:00.000-05:00You have to be especially careful about the meat a...You have to be especially careful about the meat at Pioneer.
