Event Reminders: TGIF!

Los Nutcrackers @ BAAD
“HO! HO! HO!" becomes "HA! HA! HA!" this holiday season with LOS NUTCRACKERS: A CHRISTMAS CARAJO. This queer, Latino, holiday play returns for the 5th triumphant year to celebrate the holidays in a whole new way. 'Something for Everybody' Flea Market

Holiday Jazz Concert @ Bronx Library Center
The Yes/Nonet slips into its Gay Apparel and its Merry and Bright repertoire to become the Noel/Nonet this season, led by holiday maven Mary Pearson. Mary is bringing a sack full of Holiday Spirit, some personally stamped holiday favorites ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," "Deck the Halls," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas") and several of her own "written for the season" compositions, all arranged for the nine-piece jazz ensemble. Family Affair Holiday Party @ Bronx Museum
In celebration of the holiday season, the program features an exciting afternoon for children (ages 5 - 11) and their families that will include art-making, food, and guided tours of Street Art, Street Life - an exhibition documenting street art from the 1950s to the present. 'Christmas in the Colonies' @ Van Cortlandt House Museum
Van Cortlandt House Museum, located off Broadway at West 246th Street, will host “Christmas in the Colonies,” a special historic holiday event, on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 13 and 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. on each day. For this two-day program, the mansion will be decorated in an 18th-century style, while tour guides — dressed in appropriate colonial attire — will lead guests through the halls and discuss the origins of traditional winter holidays such as Saint Nicholas Day, Christmas and Twelfth Night. In addition, there will be live holiday music, dance and other entertainment, as well as complimentary refreshments, which will be served to guests at the end of the tour. The entrance fee is $10 per person and discounts are available for senior citizens and students. Advance reservations are strongly recommended. Candlelight Tour of Bartow-Pell Mansion
Bartow-Pell Mansion, at 895 Shore Road, will hold its annual candlelight tour of the museum, on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 5 to 8 p.m. For this year’s event, titled “A Celebration of Trees,” each room of the mansion will feature a tree decorated with a Nutcracker theme. Visitors will be able to experience the museum as the Bartow family did nearly 200 years ago, with decorations and candles to evoke a holiday season from the early 19th century. Guides will discuss the history of the home and guests will enjoy warm cider and festive snacks at the conclusion of the tour. Three separate tours will be held, at 5, 6 and 7 p.m. Admission prices are $12 for adults, $8 for seniors and students and ages 5 and under get in for free. Family Art Project @ Wave Hill
This weekend's 'Sparkle and Shine' Family Art Project will take place tomorrow and Sunday, 12/13 and 12/14, from 1 to 4pm. Combine golden and silvery shapes of metal foil, glittery beads and natural wonders such as pods, pinecones and spices. Colombian artist Esperanza Cortés helps you fashion them into glowing gifts and seasonal decorations. Free with admission. Click here for more info.


RENT: School Edition @ Riverdale YM-TWCA
The Riverdale Rising Stars are one of the first teen theater groups in the country to perform this newly-released version of the incredibly popular musical, which recently closed after many years entertaining audiences on Broadway. The Rising Stars were granted special rights, as the first licensing applications were being granted to high schools only. Remaining show dates are: Saturdays, December 13 & 20 at 8pm and Sundays, December 14 & 21 at 7:30pm, Sunday, December 14 at 3:00pm.
